The Robinson Huron Treaty of 1850 Gathering marks the anniversary of signing the Robinson Huron Treaty 1850 on September 9, 1850, in Baawaating (Sault Ste. Marie), ON. This sacred treaty was signed between 17 signatory Anishinaabe communities and the British Crown. The Robinson Huron Treaty of 1850 Gatherings started as a way for the Treaty communities to exert their sovereignty over their traditional territory, gather strength and guidance from the ancestors, and, most importantly, raise awareness amongst Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities about the Robinson Huron Treaty of 1850. The Gathering is an annual event that brings together community members, leaders, and allies to commemorate and discuss the Robinson Huron Treaty of 1850. It’s a time for reflection, education, and planning for future advocacy efforts.
